the f wordDon't get your hair all in a bun. The f word I'm talking about here is freedom. free·dom : the quality or state of being free: as a: the absence of necessity, coercion, or constraint in choice or action b: liberation from slavery or restraint or from the power of another : independence c: the quality or state of being exempt or released usually from something onerous <freedom from care> d: ease, facility You know that feeling you get when someone scrapes their finger nails along a chalkboard? or when you chew on tinfoil? or whatever it is that makes your teeth cringe in your jaw? You know what I mean? Sometimes I get that feeling when I hear people share their Christian faith. I get an image of a sort of Cloverfield creature, crushing gay marriage, waging abortion jihad, exorcising SpongeBob and Harry Potter out of our children. This pod is a forum for thinkers who are trying, as a famous (very famous and, I might qualify, well-loved) author put it, "to talk about faith without sounding like assholes".There are alot of people coming to similar conclusions at the same time. Bob Hyatt, the 35-year-old pastor of the Evergreen Community, an emergent church that meets every Sunday at the Lucky Lab pub in Multnomah Village put it like this, "We're not going to ignore 2,000 years of Christian history, but we're not going to do what our parents or grandparents did just because." How does the f word look from your place? SpongeBob will come and go but what questions are people really wrestling with? »
